This website has been designed and implemented by the InfoPro Center for Economic Information. It is intended to be used by economic researchers, academics, political and business decision makers, and the public at large.

ACTIVITIES |

The lack of reliable country economic data has been singled out as a prime impediment for development. The InfoPro Center for Economic Information will endeavor to fill the gap between information needs and what the public sector and a small number of private sector entities are currently providing.

The InfoPro Center for Economic Information undertakes the following activities:
1) Development of economic indices
2) Nationwide economic surveys
3) Publishing of economic books and manuscripts
4) Organize workshops and seminars on specific economic themes
5) Disseminate economic information

FUNDING |

The InfoPro Center for Economic Information is funded by InfoPro, the publisher of Lebanon Opportunities and several other economic and business periodicals. This covers its running expenses. Project funding is sought from donor agencies and beneficiary parties. |

PROJECTS - IN PROGRESS AND COMPLETED |

|
1. Study for comparison of Lebanon as a
tour-operator destination. The study was commissioned by the
National Council of Tourism and was fully funded by InfoPro.
The project compared tour offers from major Arab countries
to Beirut and competing destinations.
2. . Economic and business database. Since its inception
in mid 2002, the InfoPro Center for Economic Information
completed the publishing on the Internet a comprehensive
database of economic and business data. It is currently accessible through:
http://www.databank.com.lb. It will soon be accessible
through the institute’s own website. In 2003 the Center
has obtained funding from USAID through Amideast’s
Transparency, Accountability, and Good Governance (TAG) program
to expand the database to more than 2,000 basic statistic
elements.
3. Publishing of a book by Dr. Marwan Barakat, head of economic
research for Banque Audi entitled The Fall of Emerging Market:
Fundamental Analysis & Lessons for Lebanon. The book
led to organizing a lecture hosted by UNDP at the UN House.
The publishing of book is fully funded by InfoPro
4. The Center plans to conduct a nationwide population and
business survey. A pilot project has been completed successfully.
It has targeted major axis in Beirut. It achieved an 80 percent
penetration rate in the designated area. It was fully funded
by InfoPro in collaboration with MAPS.
A full proposal has been completed and is being circulated
to funding agencies and corporate donors.
5. Study of the technology sector of Lebanon for the Professional
Computer Association and IDAL. The study was fully funded
by InfoPro.
6. Study on the perception of the private sector on the
Euro Med agreements and its readiness to deal with it. Undertaken
in collaboration with the American University of Beirut.
